Richmond Magazine to Host the Creative Kids Hangout
The third edition of the Richmond Night Market Virtual Experience returns on Saturday, June 13, from 5 to 10 p.m. The evening will feature a live mural painting exhibit by Nico and Austin in the MakerSpace Spotlight, and attendees will be able to shop local and visiting artisans, participate in the Creative Kids Hangout hosted by Richmond magazine, and enjoy live music and a DJ to complete the night.
We are excited to host the Creative Kids Hangout with a “Design Your Own Magazine Cover Contest.” The Creative Kids Hangout participants will download the Richmond magazine cover templates and create a magazine cover with their own design and story topics. The cover design can include an original drawing, illustration, a collage made from cutouts or an original poem. There are no boundaries on your creativity. We have added examples of Richmond magazine covers below to show the different issues and cover styles.
Please encourage your child to come up with a feature story/idea first then design a cover to support the feature. The idea is to have each participant showcase their creative side with their drawing or writing (short poem). We want the kids to design the cover how they imagine and share their point of view. Sample ways to create a magazine cover include, but are not limited to: original drawing/illustration, creating a word search or puzzle, or writing a poem with illustration.
If your child does not have a theme in mind, they may use one of the following magazine issues or guides we feature annually to design his/her cover: The Complete Sourcebook, Top Docs, Pet Guide, Real Estate Guide, Best and Worst, Best Restaurants, or RVA Traveler.

Once participants complete their cover design, please upload it to be entered in the Creative Kids Magazine Cover Design contest, sponsored by bbgb Books.
Contest entries must be uploaded by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 19. The contest will run for a week for our readers and contest family and friends to vote on, and the three covers with the most votes will win a prize. Thanks to bbgb Books, a $50, $25 and $15 gift card will be awarded to the top three winners (first, second and third place).
