Farm to Family is planning its first fundraiser to help with development of a nonprofit entity called BusFarm. Founded by Suzi Lilly and her husband, Mark, Farm to Family was created as a way to bring locally sourced food to more people. "Both of us had grown up [producing] our own food and being in this environment," Suzi Lilly says. The couple's business consists of an indoor market and a bus that travels around greater Richmond and Washington, bringing goods to customers. Now, they hope that BusFarm will become an urban agricultural training center. The fundraiser is set for July 14 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn at 501 E. Broad St., where executive chef Willie Miller will prepare a Local Foods Dinner. Also on the agenda are film screenings presented by various guest speakers, a silent auction, and a presentation and book signing by Will Allen, author of The Good Food Revolution and CEO and founder of Growing Power. Tickets are $150 per person. "There's something amazing when people learn about growing food and getting their hands dirty," Lilly says. "It's very healing for people."
