Despite the name, The Grey Hill Café is a food truck tucked away on MacArthur Avenue in North Side. The menu consists of sandwiches, build-your-own grilled cheeses, homemade sides and specials-of-the-day. The chef was very patient with our large group and walked us through the menu.
After trying to decide if it was possible to order everything, I settled on the crab cake sandwich, because, after all, they claim theirs is "the best crab cake in all of Richmond."
The sandwich was exceptional. It was so moist, with lump crabmeat and very little filler, and served with lettuce and tomato. For my side, I couldn't decide between the baked beans and Israeli couscous salad mixed with black beans and corn — so I got both. The baked beans had the perfect combination of heat, and smoky, sweet flavor. The couscous salad was served hot and was a great light side to complement the hearty crab cake sandwich.
The Grey Hill Café food truck is open in the Once Upon a Vine parking lot at 4009 MacArthur Ave. every Thursday to Sunday from 11a.m. to 8 p.m. Prices range from $5 to $12. Follow their Facebook page for updates and for information about the specials-of-the-day.
