It isn't summer until Saints Constantine and Helen's Greek Orthodox Cathedral throws its annual Greek Festival (now in its 38th year) at Malvern and Grove Avenues on Thursday, May 31, from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, June 1 and 2, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, June 3, from noon to 7 p.m. Squeeze your way through the crowds to grab a plate of spanakopita, moussaka, dolmades and calamari, plus every other Greek treat you can think of, and wash it all down with a cooling glass of retsina or Mythos beer. Traditional dancing and live music make this festival one of RVA's most beloved outdoor events. Takeout is available at the festival's drive-thru at Cary Street and Antrim Avenue and is open from 11 a.m. untill dusk on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and from noon untill dusk on Sunday, or until they sell out.
