Goatocado specializes in vegetarian fare. The owners stand firmly behind their promise to serve only local ingredients, most of which come straight from their farm, just 20 minutes away.
On a Tuesday afternoon, I ventured over to the Byrd House Market to give Goatocado a try. I have to say, I was disappointed. Not only was the menu different than what was posted online, there was also a $2.50 price increase for sandwiches and bowls that I wasn't expecting. Despite that initial surprise, the food looked intriguing, with fresh ingredients and an interesting mix of flavors, and the staff was very friendly.
Although I'd really been hoping for the sandwich with mint-ricotta spread and mangoes, I settled for a Tex-Mex sandwich with pico de gallo and beans. Unfortunately, it was just so-so, with flavorless bread and soggy lettuce. My companions had the same reaction to their mix-and-match sandwich and bowl, especially at $8 a pop. Despite the freshness of Goatcado's ingredients, their dishes didn't live up to their promise. I don't think I'll be planning a return trip.
