In this inaugural event on Sept. 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Dabbs House Museum in eastern Henrico County will hold "The War Between the Tastes," a Civil War-era food festival. "History is not always the most inclusive. … [At this event], people can literally touch, taste, feel and smell history," says Lisa Denton, Dabbs House assistant site manager and program coordinator. There will be an 1860s cook-off between reenactors (both Confederate and Union), and first- and second-place winners will receive the "Lardy," a trophy in the shape of a small cast-iron skillet. Expect Civil War encampments, demonstrations, period music, children's activities and modern food vendors as well. Dabbs House Museum, 3812 Nine Mile Road, 652-3409, dabbshouse.henricorecandparks.com
