More than 3,000 blue, shiny pinwheels reflected light in the Children's Garden at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden through the end of April, which is Child Abuse Prevention Month. The pinwheels planted along the lake marked the number of children helped by Prevent Child Abuse Virginia's Healthy Families Virginia program in the past year. PCAV originated the Blue Ribbon Campaign several years ago to represent abused children, according to executive director Johanna W. Schuchert, but now the Pinwheels for Prevention program adds a "child-friendly" and positive element. Although the pinwheels were removed at the end of April, PCAV has offered to donate them to children's organizations. Call Stacy Adams at 359-6166, ext. 309, for more information.
