With the new year ringing in, maternity wards around Richmond revisit an unofficial contest to see which hospital delivers the first baby of the year. Nellie League, administrative director of women's and children's services at Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital, says that at many local hospitals, the first-baby honor usually comes with a gift basket, either from the medical staff or a baby-goods retailer.
