A Crisis Triage Center that opened in December at Chippenham Hospital is designed to provide mental assessment services for individuals that police officers have brought in on an emergency custody order. The only program of its kind in central Virginia, it combines medical, psychiatric, law enforcement and emergency mental health resources in one location. "There is a definite need in our communities for [this] type of program," says Dr. Martin Buxton, medical director at Tucker Pavilion. "We're making strides to get patients the help they need before they hit a crisis."
