Celebrating its first anniversary, Expression Self and Art at 6231 River Road in the River Road Shopping Center at first glance seems like an art gallery. Paintings from abstracts to landscapes line the walls, primarily created from oils, watercolors and acrylics. However, the paintings are only one part of Expression Self and Art, which is primarily a medical spa.
Sandra Spain, a master aesthetician at the business, says artwork and medical spa services are a natural combination. “It’s really all about beauty and feeling beautiful,” she says.
Operating on a motto of “healthy skin is beautiful skin,” Expression offers treatments to nourish and restore the skin. Its products are designed to treat conditions including hyperpigmentation, sensitive skin, photoaging and acne. Services include an assortment of peels, non-invasive skin care procedures, massage and hair removal. An added link to the beauty of the business is the offering of intradermal cosmetics. Expression uses organic and hypoallergenic pigments to create this permanent makeup.
The business owners are David Wayner and Dr. Mason Williams, the retired founder of Richmond Plastic Surgeons. Williams met artist Sally Lawson, leading to the art collaboration.
