Raise your hand if you could use a little holiday cheer (and some retail therapy) right about now. If that’s the case, you’re in luck! The local holiday shopping season is in full force and continues through December. If there are two things RVA loves to do, it’s supporting local businesses and hosting a festival. Below, you’ll find a calendar full of shopping and fashion events that’ll put a jingle in your step and a smile on your face.
24th Annual Saxon Shoes for the Needy
Of course, the giving season extends beyond our immediate circle of friends. Saxon Shoes is hosting a shoe collection event for the Salvation Army now through Christmas Eve. If you have gently used shoes in your closet that you don’t need or want, consider dropping them by Saxon; they’re grateful for all sizes and seasons, though they are always most in need of children’s and men's footwear. Nov. 1 - Dec. 24, Saxon Shoes, Short Pump Town Center, 11800 W. Broad St.
52nd Annual Craft + Design Show
The artisans represented at this craft and design show are museum-quality — serious talent and artistic vision are behind the handmade goods. These are gifts you give your most cherished loved ones, who will, in turn, be sure to cherish them. Among dozen of exhibitors, Elaine B. Jewelry from Charlottesville offers raw stones and metals in organic shapes, while Teresa Crowninshield out of Massachusetts designs modern, sleek jackets and coats. Nov. 18-20, Science Museum of Virginia, 2500 W. Broad St., $10
35th Annual Church of the Redeemer Holiday Bazaar
With over 110 vendors at this beloved annual holiday bazaar, you’re sure to find something for every family member, friend, pet and yourself. It’s a free event, though $1 and canned food donations at the door will get you raffle tickets for prizes throughout the day. Nov. 19, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 8275 Meadowbridge Road, Mechanicsville
Molly Virginia Made + Handy Ma’am Goods Trunk Show
As if you need another excuse to hang out in the gorgeous Quirk Gallery space, two local fashion designers are teaming up for a single-day trunk show, with goods perfect for your best gals. MVM offers handmade leather goods, all clean lines and marbleized colors. And Handy Ma’am stays on trend with handmade overalls, bandanas and T-shirts. Nov. 19, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Quirk Gallery, 207 W. Broad St.
Crafting at its coolest! Check out screen-printed onesies from the Bird and Elephant, leather and canvas accessories from Lineage, and get your buzz on while you get your shop on with a beer from Hardywood Park Craft Brewery. Saturday and Sunday will have a slightly different mix of vendors (50 in total!), so you may want to make sure you pop by each day. Dec. 3, noon to 7 p.m., Dec. 4, noon to 5 p.m., Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, 2408 Ownby Lane
Sacred Waters, Studio Copal and Fable + Fauna are teaming up again this year for their annual open house where you can take advantage of awesome sales on their skincare products, scarves, wraps, jewelry and yogi-approved separates. Dec. 4, 1 to 5 p.m., Sacred Waters, 3319 W. Cary St.
