While working as an unpaid television production intern in Los Angeles, Lacey Rollins dreamed one night that she owned a successful sandal business. "I woke up and I was inspired to follow the dream," the Chesterfield County native says of Soles Citizen Functional FootWear, an e-commerce company she runs out of her Jackson Ward apartment. The rubber-soled denim and faux leather sandals that range from $50 to $55 have a pouch on the upper section for storing keys, dollar bills and other small items. "There's no other sandal on the market that has a pocket inside," Rollins says. The 28-year-old entrepreneur hopes to one day sell her sandals in department stores and possibly open a brick-and-mortar location in Richmond, but right now she's focused on just getting her feet on the ground. solescitizen.com
