Kirsten and Bill Tanner spent a lot of time in the pediatric unit of Chippenham Hospital when their daughter, Claire, was undergoing treatment for a brain tumor. She died in 2010, just shy of 4 years old, but her legacy continues through A Small Comfort, founded by the Chesterfield County couple. On Oct. 24, the nonprofit opened a pediatric playroom at the hospital. Painted light blue and green, the space is meant to be “a calming place to get your mind away from things and enjoy your child,†Kirsten says.Â
