Forty years ago this month, the Fan Free Clinic opened off of Floyd Avenue, near Virginia Commonwealth University, as a grass-roots effort to "make sure young people were getting the care they needed to keep them healthy," says clinic spokeswoman Julie M. Sulik. Now located at 1010 N. Thompson St., the clinic has offered services to more than a quarter-million people. On Nov. 10, Fan Free will host FFC Flashbacks: Celebrating 40 Years of Service, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Tickets are $50 and may be purchased online at ffcflash backs.eventbrite.com.
