Virginia Mega Mile Pro Flat Track Race
to
Colonial Downs only holds one motor-sports race per year because of an agreement with New Kent County, and that will be the Virginia Mega Mile Pro Flat Track motorcycle race — the 13th of 16 stops on the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Pro Circuit. Last year, about 4,000 fans from 19 states attended the race. Categories include twin engine, for more experienced riders, and pro singles, featuring up-and-coming, younger riders, says Darrell Wood, Colonial Downs’ marketing director, who notes that the track’s 1.25-mile circumference allows for speeds of more than 130 mph. Gates open at noon on Aug. 23, and racing takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance or $35 at the event.
