More brides and grooms are saying "No, thanks" to the traditional wedding shower — especially if they've already filled their household needs pre-nuptials. A Richmond-based company has come up with a good idea for these folks who don't need anything: the Anniversary Box.
This silk-covered cube, available at happilyeverafterwords.com for $95, contains 50 note cards and envelopes that friends and relatives can inscribe with messages for the couple — a gift that they may want to pull out at anniversary time. Susan Hogg, president of circle S studio, the box's maker, received a homemade version of the box from her mother-in-law at her wedding 30 years ago.
Hogg says the notes have become more special over the years, as they remind them of departed loved ones and prompt phone calls to friends they haven't seen in a while — perhaps a little more meaningful than the fondue set sitting in the closet.
