Ben Lyons, the patriarch of a Jewish family, lies in his hospital bed, dying from cancer, while his wife, Rita, unfazed, flips through decorating magazines. When their adult children, Curtis and Lisa, arrive, the family’s bickering threatens the prospect of any peaceful final moments. In Nicky Silver’s The Lyons, human and family connections are explored and analyzed. “People will see elements of their own familial relationships,” says director Billy Christopher Maupin. “It’s very dark, but hysterically funny.” The 5th Wall Theatre production will be staged at Richmond Triangle Players. $25. 5thwalltheatre.org.
