One of the names Richmonders should recognize in the Friday Cheers concert series is that of recent RVA transplant J. Roddy Walston and the Business, which plays May 30 at 8 p.m., preceded by the Kopecky Family Band at 6:30. Its September 2013 album, Essential Tremors , earned the band — originally from Cleveland, Tenn. — a spot at this year's SXSW festival and Chicago's Lollapalooza. The series line-up for May includes Vintage Trouble and Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers on May 2, Lord Huron and The Northerners on May 9, and RVA Music Night on May 23 with Avers, Todd Herrington: Things and The Green Boys. The series concludes June 27 with folk heavyweight Neko Case and underrated singer-songwriter Laura Veirs. 6:30 p.m. $5 to $10 (free for children 12 and younger). 788-6466 or venturerichmond.com .
