Even when he was making lo-fi home recordings in his native Philadelphia, Kurt Vile’s infectious, often acoustic-based music evoked the singalong sunshine vibe of the best ’70s AM radio rock. Compositions like “Wakin’ on a Pretty Daze” have an unapologetically commercial sound that isn’t far from America’s “A Horse With No Name” period.
And he’s on a roll. The former War on Drugs multi-instrumentalist has released three knockout CDs in a row with his band, The Violators. Last year’s “B’lieve I’m Goin Down” even scored a Billboard Adult Alternative No. 1 with the single “Pretty Pimpin.”
Following Richmond’s Lucy Dacus at 6:30 p.m., Kurt Vile and The Violators bring the mellow gold to Friday Cheers on June 10. 8 p.m. $10. 788-6466 or venturerichmond.com.
