"Media X" is 1708 Gallery's entry into the election cycle and features 10 international artists exploring current issues and events that often receive short shrift on basic-cable news. One aspect of the exhibition, which runs through Nov. 22, will be a daily newscast created by Chris Barr and Véronique Côté, featuring interviews with gallery visitors. Yes, you too can be a talking head.
Other artists include Michael Takeo Magruder, an American-born artist living in England whose video work is about interpretations of history in an era of real-time news; Richmond resident Althea Georgelas, whose digital and video pieces examine the way media and information are perceived; and New Yorker Kalika Gorski whose drawings deal with international tensions and the effects of the war in Iraq.
