Ezibu Muntu African Dance and Cultural Foundation is a 36-year-old group of internationally touring Richmond-based dancers, musicians and educators dedicated to raising awareness and appreciation of African cultural and artistic traditions. Ezibu received a 2005 Theresa Pollak Prize for Excellence in the Arts.
The troupe's name can be interpreted as "A Good Family." Their latest presentation is titled "We've Endured," and according to director Renée Knight, it celebrates the many souls and spirits that continue to feed the fortunes, fates and family of the company.
"This is about humility and love for our history and traditions that sustain us," Knight says.
Ezibu Muntu performs at the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Road, June 26 and 27, with a student-geared matinee at 10 a.m. on June 26; tickets are $10. The June 27 performance will be held at 7 p.m.; tickets are $20.
