Richmond beer juggernaut Hardywood Park Craft Brewery is heading west, and we don't just mean to its forthcoming Goochland facility. The River City-based business just announced a new 3.5-barrel brewery, a 1,100-square-foot taproom and a beer garden — all slated for Charlottesville and all set to open at 1000 W. Main St. in the Uncommon building by September.
“The [Charlottesville] brewhouse is five times the size of our current pilot system," brewmaster and co-founder Patrick Murtaugh says in a news release, "and will give us the opportunity to pursue more collaborative brewing efforts and to experiment with innovative recipes in a dedicated facility, while gathering meaningful feedback on these new concepts.”
The Uncommon concept will not affect construction on Hardywood West in Goochland, nor will it move Hardywood's headquarters from Richmond. The new facility is expected to create four full-time jobs and 12 part-time roles — and require a $300,000 investment from the brewery. In the taproom and beer garden, guests can expect 12 Hardywood brews on tap, plus local-to-Charlottesville charcuterie, freshly baked soft pretzels, draft kombucha and nitro iced coffee.
“Virginia Eagle Distributing has done an excellent job representing Hardywood in central and western Virginia,” Hardywood president and co-founder Eric McKay says in the release, “but as we’ve learned in Richmond, our taproom is the most impactful vehicle for sharing our story, and we hope to create similar enthusiasm for our beers at retail accounts throughout Charlottesville.”
