As Virginia wine hits its stride, RVA is strolling right along. We can claim about 10 wineries within an hour's drive, and we have access to free weekly sampling at area wine shops, frequent wine dinners and wine festivals, and plenty of wine bars and vino-savvy restaurants where knowledgeable staffers can recommend the perfect pairing for your appetizer, entrée or dessert.
On Oct. 2, downtown Richmond will be the location for the first Virginia Wine Summit. Hosted by Gov. Bob McDonnell and first lady Maureen McDonnell, it will bring industry leaders and wine experts here for a day of talks and tastings. In announcing the event, Virginia Wine Board chairman Rock Stephens noted the "incredible momentum surrounding Virginia wines." In the following articles, we talk with some of the people behind the new outpouring of interest and explore ways to expand and enrich your wine experience.
