ArtBusiness Richmond Economic investment tools implemented by the administration of Mayor Dwight C. Jones in 2011 with the purpose of lending additional economic development strength if and when Richmond City Council approves an arts and culture district in Richmond's downtown.
Arts and Culture District A distinction applied to a specific geographical area designated by the state or by a locality. The boundaries, by state law, allow localities to exempt businesses and property owners within the districts from certain permit and user fees. They also give localities the flexibility to create special zoning classifications that can exempt businesses from some ordinances.
Arts District Task Force Convened in 2009 by Curated Culture and Virginia Performing Arts Foundation, it included various stakeholders from the arts, tourism, the business community and the city of Richmond who developed a basic framework for the creation of a Richmond arts and culture district.
