After seven years at Short Pump Town Center, Saxon Shoes recently underwent a significant remodel of its 26,000-square-foot store. "The majority of the women's department got a little makeover," owner Gary Weiner says. The retailer stayed open for the two weeks in March when walls were knocked down, new lighting fixtures and jewel-toned carpeting was installed, and the front desk was moved to the side of the store. "When you walk in, you'll see essentially a brand-new Saxon Shoes," Weiner says, adding that the main focus of the remodel was to open up the middle of the store. The changes allowed the shop to bring in more products from its top-selling brands, including UGG, Dansko, Vera Bradley, Sperry Top-Sider and Toms. "We're giving them more defined areas and sections that will make those brands stand out," Weiner says. In addition, high-end brands such as Michael Kors, Coach and Stuart Weitzman will also be featured in a more prominent section of the store. The family-owned retailer, founded by Weiner's parents, Jack and Gloria Weiner, in June 1953, carries more than 200 shoe brands for men, women and children.
