On April 30, the race to the finish line begins for Quilting Adventures' 30 Hour Quilting Marathon, a benefit for Massey Cancer Center.
"The quilts themselves are going to be donated to local cancer support groups," says Cheryl Schenck, a staffer at the Willow Lawn shop who has a personal connection to the cause — the 42-year-old just completed radiation treatments for breast cancer in March. "It makes me want to get the word out even more."
Beginners are welcome, and participants ($20 per person, donations also accepted; all funds benefit Massey) will be assigned to a team to quilt for a few hours. The marathon will take place on April 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m.; May 1 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and May 2 from noon to 6 p.m. For more information, call 262-0005 or visit quiltingadventures.com .
