Five months after moving to Richmond from Oakland, Calif., Hansi and YaaTaah Armentrout opened Y&H Mercantile (658-0094 or facebook.com/YHMercantile ) next to Halcyon Vintage Clothing at 119-A N. Robinson St. "We came out here on a whim because we'd heard so many great things," YaaTaah says, adding that the couple, who met at a Buffalo Exchange store in Berkeley, originally thought about opening a shop in California, but decided property was too expensive. Their 1,100-square-foot boutique carries vintage-inspired men's and women's clothing and accessories, along with gift items made in Richmond. "It's funky," YaaTaah says of the clothing that ranges in price from $44 for a screen-printed T-shirt to $300 for a silk maxi dress made in Los Angeles. Y&H plans to collaborate with Robinson Street neighbors for sidewalk sales.
