These hanging light fixtures are easy to make and will add some magic to your outdoor space.
*Note: Hang your lights somewhere out of the elements or move them inside before it rains. If they are left directly in the rain, water will loosen the glue mixture and your orbs will lose their shape.
What you’ll need:
•Balloons
• Cornstarch
• White glue such as Elmer’s Glue
• Vaseline
• Garden twine or yarn
• Twinkle lights
Instructions:
1: Make the glue mixture. In a disposable container, combine 4 ounces of white glue, ½ cup of cornstarch and ¼ cup of warm water.
2: Blow up some balloons. The size and shape of your balloon will determine the size and shape of your hanging light. You might want to use a few different sizes to keep things interesting.
3: Tie a string to the end of your balloon. Once your balloon is covered with twine and glue you can hang it up by this string to dry.
4: Cover your balloons with Vaseline. This will make it easier to separate your balloon from the twine once everything is dry.
5: Drag your twine or yarn through the glue mixture and then wrap it around your balloon. Wrap it in a random design but remember to leave a small circle opening at the balloon’s end so that you will have a hole to insert your lights into when you are finished.
6: Let the twine balloons dry. Hang up your balloons to dry — it will take several hours.
7: Pop the balloons. Once the glue mixture on the twine is completely dry, use a pin or scissors to pop the balloons and then pull them out of the open ends of your twine orbs.
8: Insert the twinkle lights. Push a strand of twinkle lights into the open end of your orb and hang your new light in your garden or on your porch.
