In his role as Ledbury's wedding style expert, Eric Waters helps customers select Ledbury products and provides advice on where to buy suits and how to pair shirts with ties. "We welcome grooms and their wedding parties to come to our showroom for a little bourbon and to coordinate their looks," Waters says of the Richmond-based shirtmaking company. "It's my job to help make the process of looking good for the big day completely enjoyable."
Bride: What style advice do you have for groomsmen?
Eric Waters: My No. 1 piece of advice for groomsmen would be to keep it simple — all focus should be on the bride. That being said, the best way to look great in wedding pictures is to pay attention to the fit of your shirt and suit, ensuring a classic silhouette.
Bride: What should men look for in the cut and fit of a shirt for the ceremony?
Waters: A shirt should complement your body type. At Ledbury, we specialize in well-tailored shirts made with slightly less fabric in the waist and torso for a flattering shape. Your suit jacket should echo this tailoring. We also like soft-shouldered blazers and sport coats, which provide a more natural look.
Bride: Do any particular colors work well for weddings?
Waters: For a more modern look, consider using complementary colors for groomsmen. For example, if the bridesmaids are wearing light blue dresses, try a navy tie with a white shirt and gray suit for the groomsmen. The wedding party will still look cohesive, without strictly matching.
Bride: How can a groomsman incorporate accessories into his ensemble?
Waters: While the bride usually selects ties or bowties, a groomsman can find individuality in little details like his cufflinks and watches. Personally, I recommend bringing a slick pair of shades to sport during some pictures and maybe for the dance floor later in the evening.
Bride: Any final advice?
Waters: It's not every day you get to dress in a tuxedo. Take advantage of the opportunity to dress up, and have fun with it. Clothes can only take you so far; it's all about how you wear it.
