Kristen Green grew up in Farmville and attended the Prince Edward Academy, co-founded by her grandparents in response to the 1954 U.S. Supreme Court Brown v. Board of Education ruling. The Academy didn’t admit black students until 1986, when Green was in eighth grade. In 2013, she returned to Farmville to better understand the racial divide of her youth and its lingering effects. Her new book, Something Must Be Done about Prince Edward County, is a personal investigation into forces that shaped a generation of young people, black and white. Green, a Harvard Kennedy School graduate and former Richmond Times-Dispatch reporter, will read from, sign and discuss the book on June 23, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble store at 1111 W. Broad St. kristengreen.net.
