The largest taekwondo event in the world, the 2016 USA Taekwondo National Championships, will be in Richmond this month for the first time in its 42-year history.
With the Summer Olympics coming up in August, Richmonders will have a chance to see some Rio 2016 taekwondo competitors in action before the games begin. Held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center from July 4 to 10, the championships involve board breaking, poomsae (forms competition) and sparring for 6-year-olds and up, yellow belts to black belts.
Advance tickets (available at teamusa.org) are $50 for an all-event pass or $12 for a single day; single-day admission at the door is $18 for adults. Plus, check out USA Taekwondo Night at the Richmond Flying Squirrels game on July 6.
