Grab your hats, Richmond baseball fans. The Flying Squirrels are back and ready to play ball, with the first game of the team's fifth season scheduled for April 10 at 6:35 p.m. against the Altoona Curve. Opening-night festivities include a fireworks show and a performance by the Richmond Flying Circus, featuring stilt walkers, aerial acrobats and fire jugglers. As discussions about a new ballpark in Shockoe Bottom proceed amid controversy, Flying Squirrels spokesman Jay Burnham says, "We are approaching this season the same way we have for the last four, and that is to provide affordable family entertainment and fun for our fans throughout the season." Look for a grand entrance from mascot Nutzy and special theme nights, including a tribute to The Wizard of Oz on April 14, when the Diamond will be transformed into the Emerald City. 359-3866 or squirrelsbaseball.com.
