It seems odd to say now, given her distinctive blend of country, folk and gospel, but the ’90s were a banner decade for Iris DeMent. Her first album, Infamous Angel (1992), featured “Our Town” and “Let the Mystery Be,” which were, respectively, used in the closing scene of the series finale of Northern Exposure and covered by Natalie Merchant and David Byrne on MTV Unplugged. Her second and third albums My Life (1994) and The Way I Should (1996) each garnered DeMent a Grammy nomination. Then there was a 16-year wait for the next album, Sing the Delta. Her output may not be as prolific as when she started, but thankfully she’s still singing and touring — catch her at the Tin Pan on May 16. 8 p.m. $35. 447-8189 or tinpanrva.com
