Hudson, New York-based artist and VCU alumnus Conor Backman draws on his education in both sculpture and painting to incorporate three-dimensional elements in “Circular Garden,” one of two shows opening at the Reynolds Gallery on April 8.
“His work is extremely well-thought-out and as challenging as it is beautiful,” says Reynolds director Julia Monroe.
The second exhibition, by Korean-born, Atlanta-based artist Jiha Moon, features paintings that explore cultural identity by combining imagery from both Eastern and Western cultures.
“She employs art historical references, pop culture symbols and traditional folk art imagery to create her own visual vocabulary,” Monroe says.
