In the nine-time Tony Award-winning Book of Mormon, the audience follows two missionaries sent to Uganda, where the locals have suffered so much that they despise God and religion. The naïve duo is challenged not only to find their footing, but also to convert the residents to their beliefs — even if it means making up stories — and the audience is left in stitches. Although the musical is from the creators of South Park and has the same distinct crassness, its brazen jokes don’t rely on one-note, cheap tricks. Instead, the envelope-pushing humor is always moving the plot forward, developing characters and keeping the pace. Catch it from Nov. 4 to 9 at Altria Theater. Times vary. $43 to $83. 800-514-3849 or broadwayinrichmond.com.
