The Urban Tavern is now closed, according to a news release. The western Henrico County restaurant, helmed by chef Tim Bereika in the Gleneagles Shopping Center, was a Richmond magazine "Best New Restaurants" pick in May. According to its owner, Garland Taylor, the restaurant may reopen in another location sometime in the future.
"While The Urban Tavern has a loyal culinary following, we’ve received a lot of encouragement to move our operation downtown into the heart of the food district, and we are currently exploring these options," says Taylor. "The current location will reopen in 2016 with a broader, more neighborhood friendly menu, new entertainment options and all of the great craft beer selections that Richmonders enjoy. More details about the new concept will be made available in the coming weeks."
Taylor confirms that the new concept is set to open in the space at 10498 Ridgefield Parkway, and says it will open within the next 60 to 90 days. He also says that he is currently exploring new Richmond locations suitable for reopening The Urban Tavern. According to Taylor, Bereika, who could not be reached for comment, is still involved in this process: "Tim is participating in the new concept and the reemergence of Urban Tavern." When asked about the future of The Urban Tavern's full staff, he says, "We plan to keep as many as possible."
