Former Venture Richmond executive Jack Berry reported raising just under $360,000 from Oct. 1-27, far and away the most among the field of seven mayoral candidates.
Berry’s sum comprised 225 donations totaling about $209,000 and a $150,000 loan to the campaign from one of its co-chairs, Jim Ukrop. Berry reported spending $374,000 during the period. The majority of his expenses went to TV and radio advertising.
Combined with donations he received at the end of the month, Berry has raised more than $920,000 to date, surpassing Levar Stoney, former secretary of the commonwealth, for the race and the city record.
Stoney reported raising $105,000 from 198 donations. He also reported spending $236,700 during the month, the majority of which went toward TV advertising. Combined with large contributions he received at the end of the month, Stoney has raised about $850,000 during the campaign.
West End Councilman Jon Baliles reported raising about $10,000 during October, bringing his fundraising total to $78,600. City Council President Michelle Mosby reported raising $3,900, bringing her fundraising total to $39,175.
Former Commonwealth’s Attorney and Virginia Delegate Joe Morrissey, the race’s front-runner, reported no donations and no expenditures during the period.
Heading into the final week of the race, candidates reported having the following cash on hand:
- Berry: $163,000
- Morrissey: $92,000
- Stoney: $68,000
- Baliles: $65,000
- Mosby: $4,800
In the final stretch, local candidates must report any donations they receive equal to or greater than $500 within 24 hours (so check VPAP (the Virginia Public Access Project website) often).
