Red crushed-velvet love seats and sea-foam-green Midcentury ottomans are stacked 14 feet up whitewashed brick walls toward the tin ceiling at the Highpoint & Moore building in Scott's Addition.
"That vintage romantic look is here to stay," Morgan Montgomery says. The co-owner of eclectic furniture rental company Paisley & Jade opened the showroom that houses the business's entire inventory on March 1.
"We needed a space that was big enough for us to keep growing into," Montgomery says of the 4,800-square-foot building that they share with two other women-owned businesses — boutique wedding-planning firm Lovebird Events and florist The Green Flamingo. In addition to the showroom, the Paisley & Jade space also houses the workshop where Montgomery and business partner Perkins Morgan do full-scale furniture restoration and reupholstering in-house.
"Everything that comes in at least gets gone over by us to make sure it's sturdy," Montgomery says of the shop's curated collection that ranges from vintage couches and church pews to tandem bicycles and typewriters. "Some pieces we have to strip down to the bare bones and bring back to life." The pair sources items from estate sales, thrift stores, auctions and the Brimfield Antique Show, a thrice-yearly event in Massachusetts.
Most of Paisley & Jade's business comes from outdoor weddings in Virginia; Washington, D.C.; and the Carolinas, but the company does film and commercial work as well. When AMC's Turn filmed in the area earlier this year, Paisley & Jade supplied the Revolutionary War spy drama with white pine benches. For weddings, the company recently acquired a distressed wood farm table with a copper trough that is popular for oyster shucking stations and champagne bars. "That's a really fun piece," Montgomery says.
