As the Richmond Dance Festival pirouettes into its third year, the event organized by Dogtown Dance Theatre has expanded from a homegrown affair to three weekends of performances by artists from across the country.
More than 60 submissions arrived this year. Ultimately, 16 dance performances were chosen. Participating dancers will receive a stipend for their work, thanks to a grant from the Carpenter Foundation. Jess Burgess, the theater’s new director, says this year’s lineup includes traditional pieces along with acts of acro, Afro-Caribbean and aerial theater.
Headliners include Washington, D.C.-based company Jane Franklin Dance and Ramya Sundaresan Kapadia, who will perform and teach classical Indian Bharatanatyam style of dance. Adults $15, students $10, groups of 10 or more $8. 109 W. 15th St. 230-8780 or dogtowndancetheatre.com.
