The backyard barbecue is a staple of fair weather, but conditions are not as favorable as you might think in Lisa D'Amour's Pulitzer-nominated Detroit , which comes to Virginia Rep's TheatreGym through the Cadence Theatre Co. from May 1 to 24. Anna Senechal Johnson directs local stage veterans Larry Cook, Langdon Nagel, Bill Patton and Laine Satterfield, along with Richmond-stage newcomer Chris Lindsay-Abaire, wife of New York City playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, who wrote Cadence's fall production, Good People . Johnson says that the play about an unlikely pairing of neighbors made her laugh out loud when she first read it.
