Richmond’s doughnut lovers have strong opinions about who does it best, but Country Style Donuts (4300 Williamsburg Road) has been selling fried rings of love since 1968. Grab a turquoise seat and join the cult following while sampling glazed and cream-filled treats.
Looking for a burger with a side of Joe Morrissey gossip? Heavenly Burgers (608 E. Nine Mile Road) has a spot at its counter for you. Across the street from Morrissey’s law office, this trinket-filled lunch stand serves breakfast all day and sandwiches named after the owner’s grandchildren.
And surely you’d want ice cream after all that, right? I’m doing the people’s work here, so I happily downed a thick Hershey’s milkshake from the delightfully sherbet-colored Sandston Bistro & Shakes (18 E. Williamsburg Road).
Lastly — and I’m taking a turn here — stop by SiStar Seafood (4844 S. Laburnum Ave.), which isn’t old-school but rather weds fried seafood with Korean specialties, and it works.
