Anne Holton, former Virginia secretary of education and wife of Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine, stopped by Ginger Juice at the Village Shopping Center today as part of an effort by Kaine’s running mate, Hillary Clinton, to appeal to small business owners. Clinton announced that she intends to streamline financing and taxes for small businesses.
Erin Powell, owner of the Richmond-area startup that focuses on specialty fruit and vegetable juices, says that she’s excited about the initiative. “It’s very expensive and it’s very risky to get involved with a small business operation,” Powell says. “Certainly anything to help lower that barrier for entry would be greatly appreciated by the community.”
Holton, who lives on Richmond’s North Side, explained that she believes in the potential for a small business to have a large impact in its community.
“One of the things that’s fascinating to me is you ask every small business person what’s your main goal, but what you’re really about is delivering a product that’s making a difference in your community,” she says.
