The Richmond City Democratic Committee on Thursday endorsed candidates in 17 of the 18 City Council and School Board races.
The committee, which has more than 150 voting members, spurned several incumbents, including longtime council representatives Ellen Robertson (6th District) and Reva Trammell (8th District).
On School Board, the only incumbent running for reelection to earn the committee’s vote of confidence is chairman Jeff Bourne. Dawson Boyer (1st District), Mamie Taylor (5th District) and Shonda Harris-Muhammed (6th District) all lost out to challengers. Two of the current members, Kim Gray (2nd District) and Kristen Larson (4th District), earned endorsements for their City Council bids.
The value of the committee endorsement is debated, but in 2012, Parker Agelasto, Jon Baliles and Michelle Mosby each upended an incumbent after receiving the party’s backing.
