If your New Year's resolutions scrape money from your fashion fund, but you don't want to sacrifice your playful look or classy style, local consignment stores are a budget-savvy option. Buy lightly worn designer clothes for at least half the price, and make money at the same time. "You can sell the clothes you are not wearing and make some money, and you can buy other people's clothes," says Joan Williams, the 36-year owner of Carytown's The Hall Tree. "It's a double way to economize." Williams adds that The Hall Tree's selection ranges from Banana Republic to Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom items, but with prices at about 50 percent less than the store price. And Richmond is sprinkled with these shopping options, offering designer to vintage items from which to pull off stylish looks that encompass your personality, for less.
