Bangles and Beads, a Carytown haven for jewelry artisans for almost 25 years, has moved from its longtime location to a smaller space next door (3324-A W. Cary St., 355-6118). But this change is temporary, says co-owner Shirley Moore, adding that she has big plans for the original space. While renovating the building, Moore says, the business is having a second floor put on for Xtra's, a rooftop patio restaurant. The new space will have a split entrance, with one entry leading to a newly designed Bangles and Beads space and another leading to the new second-story restaurant, named for Moore's daughter, Xtra.
Bangles and Beads is a family business, established by Moore and her mother 24 years ago, with Moore's other daughter, Sophia, joining the team as her business partner 10 years ago. Her family is thrilled about the new venture, Moore says, and they hope to open their doors next summer. "We're going for more of a green look — hoping to get rid of the 1980s look," Moore says with a laugh.
