Mother’s Day is Sunday; what a wonderful time of year. I think about my mom, of course, and grandmothers and aunts — and of May when so many lovely flowers and trees are in full bloom.I think of décor, too: their love of chintz, hooked rugs and pastel colors. Of tea and lounging and cut flowers from the garden.
These pieces and styles have returned as a strong fashion trend.
Spring’s runway shows were loaded with vintage-minded, muted (and some bold) floral patterns. Oscar de la Renta and Isabel Marant showed these looks, in particular. Small scale and large florals are de rigeur again.
In honor of my family’s homes and past — and likely many of yours too — here are some floral home furnishings and accessories that have just hit the market, including the chaise I’ve included. It’s from the Charlotte Moss collection for Century Furniture, and it was introduced last month at High Point market. Not yet under production, it provides the perfect glimpse of modern chintz from a famous designer whose traditional furnishings remain in great demand.
Oh, and don’t forget this Sunday’s Mother’s Day House & Garden Tour held by Richmond’s Museum District Association. It’s the tour’s 20th year and a wondeful RVA tradition. Featuring seven private homes in this neighborhood (including three on Monument Avenue), the event will run from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on May 11. Get details and purchase tickets here.
