Target is known for its primo partnerships with high-end designer like Jean Paul Gaultier, Missoni and last year’s smashing success, Lilly Pulitzer.
Their latest partnership is with Marimekko, the famed Finish design company. This happy, color-bursting collection debuted a month ago. It features 200 limited-edition items priced from $8 to $500.
As part of the collaboration, Target’s design team traveled to Helsinki. They were captivated by the 23 hours of sunlight that defines a summer in Finland.
Well-known Marimekko artist Maija Isola captures sunny sensibilities in her perky prints and patterns. For the Marmekko Target Collection she’s designed 18 patterns in four color stories: black and white; pink, yellow and orange; black and white with teal; and a floral explosion of blue, orange and green that looks much like the wallpaper in my family’s kitchen in the 1970s.
For home goods (nearly all of which are indoor/outdoor), there are three lifestyle themes: patio, outdoor play and home. I’m crazy about the poufs and pillows. These are now on sale. Boxed sets of salad plates offer a daring mix of prints within the color groups.
The sling hammocks are fabulous, but the kids’ teepees steal the show. They are downright adorable.
The Target near West Broad and Libbie has plenty of stock. So go ahead and snatch up some Marimekko and add some exuberant sun-drenched excitement to your summertime life.
