Yesterday was the Summer Solstice — the longest day of the year. I thought of the solstice when I came across this Midcentury modern sunburst mirror ($125) last weekend at The Shops at Eviction.
I love the proportion of its spiky rays. They span from glitter-gold to tips of smudgy black. Mustache-like birds soar in the center and up the masculine glamour factor.
Eviction is owned and run by Derrick McElhaney. When it’s not raining, summery items spill enticingly onto the street corner. McElhaney’s picks are drive-by-worthy. A set of four white metal patio chairs ($700) lured me outdoors with their vintage Palm Beach lines.
I found beachy items inside the shop. A shell sculpture wired to a Lucite base ($45) and a Murano-style celadon-gray 1960’s decanter (on sale for $60) bring summery chic. These items would make great gifts for waterside hosts.
Along with McElhaney’s offerings, Barkhaus Moderne and Killer Junk share space at Eviction.
The Shops at Eviction are at 2943 W. Marshall St. in Scott’s Addition. Store hours are Thursday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
