Take a look at this chinoiserie fabric, “Pagoda Road.” Shown here in “butterscotch,” it’s $30 a yard and part of the brand new Vern Yip collection for Calico.
Yip, the well-known architect and HGTV star, has designed 151 fabrics and many trimmings for his line. Pagoda Road is available in three color options: butterscotch, azalea red and pistachio.
In Pagoda Road I see wispy designs and pockets of whimsy. With bedecked elephants, canoes and umbrella-toting figures, the design is amusing and traditional all at once.
The fabric has a moderate scale which makes it a great choice for mixing with stripes, plaids and florals from Yip’s collection and beyond.
If you like your chinoiserie patterns more compact, Yip also has a pagoda and monkey pattern called “Mondera.” Like Pagoda Road, it’s $30 a yard. There are five colorways here.
In Mondera, long tailed monkeys rest on slight and lengthy stems that intermix gracefully with song birds, tiered towers and chrysanthemums.
Calico has moved to 4026 Whittall Way in the West Broad Village shopping center. Store hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
