Gilt and Ash is a new home décor and gift boutique on the corner of Patterson and Libbie Avenues.
Owned by Richmonders Sasha Hogan and Holly Walsh, it’s stocked with a cultured, curated array of pillows, accents, books and personal accessories. It’s a sophisticated scene.
“We’re passionate about design and sharing our aesthetic,” Walsh says of the store, which opened Aug. 25. “We have a modern, fun and accessible style, and we wanted to bring something different to Richmond — a store like the ones we like to shop at in cities like New York.”
Gilt and Ash has a distinctive, refined look, with lots of white and gold, richly textured items and pops of colorful accessories. Soft throws with black, gold and silver-on cream graphics by Happy Habitat ($170) left me longing to curl up. Hide pillows with flecks of metallic and jewel-toned, patterned cut-velvet Turkish lumbar pillows ($129) also drew me in. So did splendid white porcelain vessels from Peru, a line I’d never seen.
You’ll find lamps from Chelsea House, one-off jewelry, cards by Pretty Girl Paper, candles by Votivo and Bridgewater Candle Company, and soaps and lotions by mer sea at Gilt and Ash, as well.
My new favorite hostess gift? The shop’s chic, pink, yellow and Tiffany-blue with gold-trim metal boxes of Louis Sherry truffles. They’re divine in looks and taste.
“The store is a mix of both of our styles,” Sasha explains. “Holly loves neutrals and metallics and I love color." The gray linen pillows with hot pink geometric patterns and the pillows by Lindsay Cowles; the colorful, customizable leather luggage tags by Boulevard and the pastel rope dog leashes reflect that.
“Gilt and Ash is a place where our two styles meet," Hogan says. "It makes for variety and something different and exciting for our customers. We both have a ‘gilt’ thing, and to balance that, Holly brings the ‘ash.’”
Gilt and Ash is at 5730 Patterson Ave. Store hours are Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
